Julia Weber

The projects of Bern-based artist, researcher, and sociologist Julia Weber approach the social paradoxes and experiments of everyday reality by means of different media, including photography, text, audio, and drawing. She employs ethnographic research, and combines discourse analysis and archival methodologies. The variable sound installation Röhre 1-2 (2015) contains an excerpt from her research on labor, precarity, and resistance. The audio tracks in the installation are read by an actor and an actress. The resulting texts are condensed, abstracted, and fictionalized versions of biographical interviews that Julia Weber conducted with long-term unemployed people. The original recordings of the biographical accounts are juxtaposed with thesis-like interpolations. As such, a sense of fictional time is engendered in the cozy lounge, leading to an intense experience of life and biography.
