Marianne Flotron

Amsterdam-based artist Marianne Flotron uncovers moments of great human significance in everyday working life. After her history studies at the University of Zurich, Marianne Flotron now uses artistic approaches to examine the co-dependencies between political and economic systems and the people involved. In the process, she searches for and sheds light on the practices of manipulation that influence these behavioral patterns.  Her video installation Work (2011) centers on the current perception of work in a society in which individuals define their identity primarily through their professional activity. The video was shot at a Dutch insurance company. Drawing on Augusto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed, the video poses questions regarding the democratization of work and, in so doing, highlights the extent to which a capitalist economy influences the behavior and mindset of employees.
